Renovation of the Maaraue outdoor swimming pool during the 2026 season

Opened in 1965 and listed as a historic building, the Maaraue outdoor swimming pool is showing significant structural defects after more than 60 years of operation.

For these reasons, mattiaqua has decided to carry out a complete refurbishment of the pool structures, the water treatment system, the electrical installations and the green spaces adjacent to the pool facilities.

The new water treatment technology will significantly reduce water, electricity and chemical consumption, thereby conserving resources. The swimming pools will be lined with stainless steel, which ensures sustainability and durability, and is significantly easier to maintain than the familiar tiled pools. The water area in the non-swimmer pool will be redesigned and expanded to include a spray park. However, the charm of the listed swimming pool will be preserved, and the outdoor pool will continue to be a magnet for water lovers and recreational athletes.

The demolition of the pool surround areas and the adjacent green spaces has now been completed. All pool fixtures, such as entry ladders, starting blocks and handrails, have been removed. The old overflow channel has also been sawn off the pool structure. In future, the water level here will be at the same height as the pool surround, providing an unobstructed view from the pool across the Rhine to Mainz.

The next step will be the dismantling of the old pool water treatment equipment, after which the structural work will begin.

A wonderful initiative with a heart for animals: the popular dog swimming event in September raised €1,400 in donations. The amount has now been officially handed over to the Wiesbaden animal shelter.

The dog swimming event attracted numerous dogs and their owners, who enjoyed the last day of swimming for the season in a special way. Thanks to the lively participation and commitment of everyone involved, a substantial sum was raised, which will now benefit the animal shelter.

“We are very pleased that this event not only gave the dogs a great day, but also contributed to animal welfare,” said Thomas Baum, operations manager at mattiaqua.

The Wiesbaden animal shelter expressed its sincere thanks for the support. The donation will help to ensure the care and welfare of the many animals that find a temporary home there.
